Health Insurance Working to Make a Difference – Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield

You hear so much about insurance companies these days – especially all the negatives.  I’ve heard so many rumors about Obamacare that I don’t know what to believe anymore.  And since I don’t have the time to read a TWO THOUSAND WORD document, I don’t know that I’ll figure it out anytime soon.

But what I do know?  I like a company (an insurance company, even!) that’s trying to go the extra mile with its clients.  And that’s Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield.

Their affiliated health plan, WellPoint, is working hard to provide a personalized member experience.

Their 24/7 Nurseline is awesome!  Being able to call and get connected with a nurse immediately, rather than having to go through a service and/or wait for a doctor’s call back is so reassuring, especially if you wake up in the middle of the night with a child crying over severe neck pain and Dr. Google’s making you panic that it might be meningitis.

I love its Future Moms program, which includes risk screening and educational support.  But what it also includes (that I would have really liked when I was a new mom with a newborn) is their depression screening program.  When I hadn’t slept for a month and didn’t know if it was depression or just life-changing exhaustion, I wish I would have had this program to help screen me.  Instead of guessing for myself.

Probably my favorite part of the Well Point affiliate plan, however, is their fitness plan.  Offering options like a personal trainer, a customized family meal plan (even with grocery lists!) and a personalized fitness plan certainly don’t sound like what I used to think of when I thought of insurance companies.  Did you?

I think what it all boils down to for me is this:  Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield seems to be moving into offering real, legitimate preventative lifestyle options and I LOVE that.

For someone who’s been working for the past year to develop a whole living plan, Well Point is extremely appealing.  And guess what?  YOU can receive a discount to FitOrbit, the fitness plan I’ve talked about above.  All you have to do is click here:  http://www.fitorbit.com/ib/MOMSAVES25.

If you do, let me know what you think!  I think it’s great!

  1. Good for you, for writing about a big part of nearly every family’s budget. When we adopted our daughter, my husband was covered for pregnancy (and childbirth), but the birthmother was not. Minor detail, folks. We switched soon after that.

  2. I confess. I hate the Wellpoint plan. Missy, it feels too much like Big Brother. I actually have BCBS Alabama, and they are a good company. But I want them to stick to insuring me. We haven’t run into this down here. We had to deal with it in Lexington. I had to put up with it throughout my pregnancies .It’s intrusive, and I didn’t want their nurse. I lied about my weight to save myself having to listen to some spiel from HR about the Wellpoint plan. Or whatever it was called then.

    And.
    I.
    Was.
    Pregnant.

Seriously, though. I really do like BCBS. Every single individual I have ever dealt with has treated me like a human being, and with two kids on the spectrum and a variety of covered/uncovered things, I’ve talked to a LOT of them in the last 9 years. That varies drastically from my parents’ experience when I was growing up. They spent so much time trying to get little stuff taken care of. So I don’t want to come off completely negative, when I do like some of the changes I’ve seen in my lifetime.

    Just not this one.

    • Thanks for speaking up! I’m happy to hear the other side of the coin. I didn’t think of it in terms of Big Brother, but you are right – it certainly has that angle.

  3. The sad, sad, fact of living in NJ is that nobody wants to insure you if it’s not through a group plan, and if you are in a group plan, it’s not unusual to pay up to a grand a month to insure a family. Another reason to move out of this state! Wellpoint sounds like its decent!

  4. I just wanted to comment on your mention of the thousands page Obamacare document since I stick with my work insurance, though this plan sounds great. I was recently at a conference that had a session that really broke down the whole Obamacare thing in simple terms, and it was so great to hear it simplified – I think people a lot of people are reacting with their political party, rather than to the actual plan, partially because they don’t understand it. I guess the same could be said of a lot of other things too, though :)
